Muslim Student Association
The Muslim Students Association is a national organization that assists Muslim youth attending colleges and universities in establishing chapter in the United States and Canada. The UCSB Muslim Student Association was established in 1975 and has been an energetic contributor to the UCSB campus community every year since. It is our goal to create a safe and comfortable space for Muslim and non-Muslim students and community members to socialize, coordinate religious and educational events, promote intrafaith and interfaith dialogue, and network with other campus groups to work for mutual understanding and harmony. EVERYONE is welcome at all of our events, activities, and classes, regardless of religious or non-religious background. No prior sign-up is necessary, feel free to stop by to any of our events! Both social and religious events are held at least once per week. Please join us in promoting peace and education in the UCSB campus community.
Chapters help Muslim student organizations achieve the following goals:
- implement Islamic programs and projects,
- mobilize and coordinate the human and material resources of Muslim student organizations, and educate, mobilize, and empower students.
Their guiding principles are based on the teachings of the Qur’an and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and consist of these nine points:
- Sincerity is the foundation of our existence.
- Knowledge precedes our actions.
- Humility guides our conduct.
- Truthfulness is the mark of our speech.
- Moderation is the compass of our journey.
- Tolerance is the banner of our outreach.
- Forgiveness precedes our reconciliatory efforts.
- Patience is the hallmark of our planning.
- Gratitude binds our hearts together.
There are two local MSA chapters in Santa Barbara hosted by the University of California, Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Community College.
